John Offord (1985) explains that pawkie (pawky) means sly or arch, while Adam Glen is the name of a bagpiper killed at the Battle of Sherrifmuir (1715). "New Way to Morpeth", from the William Dixon (1733-1738, Northumberland) music manuscript collection contains the tune in two of its nine parts.
