BIODAG AIR MAC THOMAIS (Thomas' Son Wears a Dirk). AKA - "Tha biodag air Macthòmais," "Petercan MacOmish," "Thomson's Dirk." AKA and see "Arndilly's Reel," "Biodag Ain M' Omish," "Brodach Ain M'Omish," "Frazer's Rant." Scottish, Canadian; Reel (cut time). Canada, Cape Breton. A Mixolydian. Standard tuning (fiddle). AAB. The tune was first published in Angus Cumming's A Collection of Strathspey or Old Highland Reels (1782, p. 8) as "Arndilly's Reel" with the alternate (garbled) Scots Gaelic title "Bittae air Mac' homaich" (i.e. "Biodag air Mac Thòmais"). The tune was not Cumming's however, as it is referenced in older Gaelic sources.
