HERVE BROWN'S DREAM. AKA and see "Little Rabbit," "John Brown's Dream," "Brown's Dream (1)," "Pretty Little Miss (1)." Old-time, Breakdown. A Major. AEae tuning (fiddle). See note for "John Brown's Dream." One of a family of tunes that includes "Brownstream," "Jimmy Johnson Pass that Jug Around the Hill," "John Brown's Dream," "Little Rabbit," "Pretty Little Gal (1)," "Stillhouse Branch" "Table Mountain Road" and others. The tune family is a common a popular one in the Blue Ridge Mountains, where it probably originated but has since been disseminated. There is some speculation (but no proof) that "Herve Brown" is the older title, often simply "Brown's Dream," from which the "John Brown" title being a later appendage, in association with the famous abolitionist.
