LASSES OF BALLY CAHILL. AKA - "Lasses of Ballycastle"(?). AKA and see "Four-Leaved Clover (2) (The)." Irish, Reel (whole time). A Dorian. Standard tuning (fiddle). AA'BB'. "Lasses of Bally Cahill" is cognate with "Four-Leaved Clover (2)" and is a member of the associated tune family, which varies widely from close to more distantanced melodic relatedness. The reel is contained in the mid-19th century music manuscript collection of Sliabh Luachra musician D. Curtin (No. 38, p. 15 [1]). Although the key signature is one sharp with not accidentals marked in the transcription, as with other members of this tune family Curtin's reel plays better with a mixture of sharp and natural 'c' notes.
