Caoimhin Mac Aoidh says “Miss Patterson’s Slipper” is the title source John Doherty used for the tune, although the first and second strains of his version are actually a version of “Master Crowley's (1)” (famously recorded by Sligo fiddler Michael Coleman) while the third and fourth strains together are the “Roscommon Reel (The).” This corresponds to the pairing of "Miss Patterson's" and "Roscommon Reel (The)" recorded as "Master Crowley's" in 1937 by Donegal fiddler Hugh Gillespie. A two-part setting of the reel (distanced from more modern versions, but recognizable) was entered into the c. 1883 music manuscript collection of County Leitrim musician biography:Stephen Grier (c. 1824-1894). There are several versions of the tune in County Donegal, although all are referred to as "Miss Patterson's Slipper," according to Mick Brown.
