SMILING KATTIE. AKA - "Smilin' Katie." Scottish, Reel (cut time). E Minor. Standard tuning (fiddle). AAB. John Glen (1891) finds earliest appearance of the tune in print in Robert Ross's 1780 collection (p. 11). Researchers Fr. John Quinn and Conor Ward find Ross's "Smiling Kattie" to be the ancestral tune to a derivative Irish tune family that includes (but is not limited to) Rev. Luke Donnellan's "Lively Kate," Roche's "Mountain Lark (2) (The)," and O'Neill's "Mountain Lark (3) (The)."
