MAID OF HOL(L)YWELL, THE (Gearrchaile an Tobair Bheannaithe). AKA - "Maid of Holyhead (The)." AKA and see "Earl of Dalkeith's Reel (3)," "Lord Dalhousie." Irish, Reel. D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AB. The reel was recorded by the Kilfenora Céilí Band in 1958. It appears in Martin Mulvhiill's collection (1986) as "Maid of Holyhead". Researcher Conor Ward finds the tune to be a version, with parts reversed of "Lord Dalhousie," actually a composition of fiddler, bandleader, composer and music publisher Nathaniel Gow (1763-1831) as "Earl of Dalhousie's Reel (2)."
