MASTER ERSKINE. AKA and see "Gipsy Hornpipe," "Gypsy Hornpipe (8)." Scottish, Hornpipe. C Major (Gow, Köhler): D Major (Anderson). Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. Composed by Niel Gow (1727-1807). "Master Erskine" also appears in the 1831-1839 music manuscript copybook of James Webster, a musician from Alehouse Hill, Brucklay, New Deer, Aberdeenshire (from the collection of J. Murdoch Henderson, now in the possession of the University of Aberdeen). A version as an untitled hornpipe (No. 1069) can be found in the large mid-19th century music manuscript collection of Manchester, England, musician biography:John Roose.
