OLD GRENADIER. AKA - "Grenadier's Return," "Grenadier's Slow March (The)." English, March (cut time). G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The tune was well-established in use in the British army by the time it was adopted as the regimental march of the newly named Grenadier Guards in 1815, and is in military use today as a slow march for the ceremony of Trooping the Colour. The Grenadier Guards call the march "Grenadier's Return" and it is performed at memorial and funeral services of Grenadier Guardsmen. It is also performed when the regiment returns to camp or quarters after tours of duty. `The Grenadier’s Return´ is also played at ceremonial occasions such as the Changing of the Guard at Buckingham, Windsor or St James’ Palace and most famously by the brigade of Guards at the Queen’s Birthday parade `Trooping the Colour´.
