BAULK, THE. AKA - "The Balk." English, American; Country Dance Tune (4/4 time). USA, New England. G Minor. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The melody appears in Johnson's Wright's Collection (London, c. 1740), volume I, 49, and in Thompson's 200 Country Dances, volume II (London, 1765).

Source for notated version : - William Vickers' 1770 music manuscript collection (Northumberland) [Seattle]. Matt Seattle concludes Vickers had the tune from aural tradition, as his note values are halved from Walsh's notation.
