Scottish, English; Jig (6/8 time). D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. John Glen (1891) finds the earliest appearance of the tune in print in Robert Bremner's 1757 collection. However, it was printed a year earlier in both David Rutherford's Compleat Collection of 200 of the Most Celebrated Country Country Dances (London, 1756) and John Johnson's Two Hundred Favourite Country Dances, vol. 7 (London, 1756). It was included by Cheapside, London, musician Walter Rainstorp in his music manuscript collection begun in 1747.
