TIDY WOMAN, THE. AKA and see “Tidy Girleen (The).” Irish, Single Jig (12/8 time). A Dorian. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. A single jig version of the tune better-known as “Behind the Bush in the Garden (1).” Jerome Colburn points out it is also the air of the song "Téir Abhaile 'Riú” (recorded on Clannad 2), and suggests the name "Tidy Woman" might have originated in a garbling of the Irish Gaelic song title. Scottish versions of the tune are “Wha'll be King but Charlie” and “Royal Charlie,” and, in Cape Breton, “I Won't Do the Work.”
