CORONATION MARCH [1]. English, March (whole time). D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AB. This "Coronation March" (there are others with the same title) appeared in numerous instrumental tutors for the fife and martial collections printed in London around the year 1770. It continued to be published into the next century. It is probably associated with the coronation of George III and his wife Charlotte as King and Queen of Great Britain and Ireland, which took place at Westminster Abbey, London, in September, 1761, about two weeks after they were married in the Chapel Royal, St James's Palace.
