BALTHAYNOCH HOUSE. Scottiish, Strathspey (whole time). D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AAB. "Balthaynoch House" is the first tune in a small four-page collection by an unknown composer or editor, that is simply entitled: "Edinr. Printed & Sold by Stewart & Co. Music Sellers South Bridge Street." Balthayock (note spelling) House is an estate in Perth and Kinross, to the east of the city of Perthnear the River Tay in Glencarse. The estate dates partly from 1578, partly from two centuries earlier[1], but the Victorian-era (1870) mansion of Batlhayock was designed by James Maclaren, the Dundee architect. The manor was abandoned for many years and demolished around 2000. Balthayock Castle, close by, is the ruin of an oblong tower, supposed to have belonged to the Knights Templars.
