OLD SPORT [3]. American, Reel. A Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. Little relation to version "Old Sport (1)" or "Old Sport (2)." Jim Chancellor ("Texas Shorty") told interviewer Phil Newman in 2008 of his recording with John Hartford, remarking: "Both of us loved that old tune, so it seemed good. I had told John that my picture of “Old Sport” in my mind’s eye from back when I learned it was always of an old hound dog running through fields of tall grass, and you could barely see his head bobbin’ up now and then—because the rhythm of that tune had a loping sound to it."
