MARCHIONESS, THE. AKA and see "Guard House (The)," "Chelmsford Races," "Hullichan Jig," "Soldier's Dance." Scottish, Jig (6/8 time). A Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The melody appears in Kirkmichael, Perthshire, fiddler-composer Biography:Robert Petrie's 1st collection (1790), although it was predated by its inclusion one of Skillern's collections in 1776 (under the title "Guard House (The)"). "Hullichan Jig" is cognate in the second strain only.
