Biographical notes
ALBERT LA MADELEINE (1905-1986) was a Quebec musician who was taught by his father, the prolific fiddler J.O. Albert LaMadeleine. Albert often accompanied his father on recordings in the 78 RPM era, and, at the age of 17, he began performing at dance events in the northwest United States. His father owned a music store in Montreal, and it is assumed that Albert contributed to the family business there. Later he worked for an oil company, but continued to perform as a musician. In addition to accompanying his father (primarily on guitar), starting in 1929 he recorded nine records for Victor Records. In the 1930s he appeared on the radio with a trio that included harmonica player Henri Lacroix .
Late in his career, in the 1970's, he recorded extended-play 33RPM's for the Bonanza label ("Trois Petits Coups d'archet," "Volume 2" {1975} and "Le Réel Mirabel"). Albert's name is given as "J.O. La Madeleine" on the 1970's albums, but his father had died in 1973.
