MISS MacDOWAL GRANT'S REEL. Scottish, Reel (cut time). A Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AAB. "Miss MacDowell Grant's Reel" was composed by Elgin fiddler-composer biography:Donald Grant and published in hisCollection of Strathspeys, Reels, Jigs &c. (1820-21). Since the reel follows Grant's strathspey "Arndilly House" it is likely the two were meant to be played as a pair, and that Miss MacDowal Grant was a member of the MacDowal Grant family of Arndilly. At the time of publication of Donald Grant's volume, Arndilly House was the seat ofDavid McDowall Grant (1761-1841)of Arndilly, Banff and Barr House, Lochwinnoch, who was a Scottish naval officer, collector of customs and, briefly, Member of Parliament.
