PUT MY LITTLE SHOES AWAY. American, Air (4/4 time). A Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). One part. "Put My Little Shoes Away" is an 1873 song written and composed by Samuel M. Mitchell (1846-1905, lyrics) and Charles E. Pratt (1841-1902, music). It has been frequently recorded through the years beginning in the 78 RPM era, and has endured as a popular song among bluegrass performers. The first two stanzas go:
Now, come and bathe my forehead, Mother For I'm growing very weak Let one drop of water, Mother, Fall upon my burning cheek
Go and tell my little playmates That I never more will play Give them all my toys, but Mother, Put my little shoes away
