OLD FORT SMITH. American, Reel (2/4 time). USA; Arkansas, Missouri. G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. This tune bears only faint resemblance to Thede's "Fort Smith (1)" but is similar in the first strain to "Fort Smith Breakdown (2)." The title appears in a list of traditional Ozarks Mountain fiddle tunes compiled by musicologist/folklorist Vance Randolph, published in 1954. "Old Fort Smith" is one of '100 essential Missouri tunes' listed by Missouri fiddler Charlie Walden.
