MISS CATHRINE CAMPBELL ARDMORE'S STRATHSPEY. Scottish, Strathspey (cut time). B Minor. Standard tuning (fiddle). "Miss Cathrine Campbell's Strathspey" was named for Catherine Campbell of Ardmore (1808-1868) daughter of Archibald Campbell, Tacksman of Ardmore, Islay, and his wife, Helen Campbell. Catherine was born at Kildalton parish, near Port-Ellen, Isle of Islay, Argyll-shire. Fiddler-composer biography:Alexander Mackay identified the tunes he composed in his collection by appending his name to them, others he described as "old" or "very old." Some few were attributed to other composers. "Miss Cathrine Campbell" has no attribution or comment, however, Mackay composed tunes for Catherine's parents and siblings in his collection, and perhaps it was an oversight that he did not append his name to this one. See also note for "annotation:Mr. Archibald Campbell Ardmore's Reel" for more.
