NEW YEAR'S GIFT [1]. AKA and see "New Year's Day (3)." English, Hornpipe. A Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. A melody composed by the great Tyneside fiddler and composer biography:James Hill, probably written in the mid-18th century. It was included in a manuscript book (c. mid-19th century) of William Hall Lister and Robert Lister [1], East Bolden, Northumberland, who both seem to have contributed pieces to the manuscript and who were probably both fiddlers. See also the nearly identical variant "New Year's Day (3)."
