ALL AROUND THE MAY POLE. AKA - "All around the maypole, see how they trot." English, American; Country Dance Tune or March (2/4 time). D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABA. The tune was entered into the music manuscript collections of poet John Clare (c. 1840, Helpston, Northamptonshire), and in the mid-19th century music manuscript of William Winter (1774-1861), a shoemaker and violin player who lived in West Bagborough in Somerset, southwest England.
