DAN SULLIVAN'S SHAMROCK BAND. AKA - "Sullivan's Shamrock Band." AKA and see "Dan Sullivan's," "Dan Sullivan's Shamrock Swing Band," "Sheehan's (Polka)," "Sheehan's Discovery." Irish, Polka (2/4 time). D Mixolydian. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. Dan Sullivan was born in Boston, Massachusetts, the son of an immigrant Irish fiddler of the same name (the elder Sullivan is mentioned in O'Neill's Irish Minstrels and Musicians as "the great Irish fiddler, known to everybody in Boston and the adjoining towns"). The younger Sullivan played piano, and in 1926 formed a band of Munster immigrant musicians. They soon made it into the recording studio and waxed some 100 well-regarded 78 RPM sides between 1926 and 1934. 'A' mixolydian versions also extent. There seems to be some confusion in Mac Amhlaoibh’s printed version between accidentals and accompaniment chords, however, the tune works quite well when played in the mixolydian mode throughout.
