REEL DE CHOYEN. French-Canadian, Reel (cut time). A Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. "Reel de choyen" is a Scottish-sounding reel, perhaps from the repertory of fiddler Pierre "Pit Jornoch" Verret (1863-1937) of the Lac-St-Charles region north of Québec City. Pit Jornoch, who lived in a neighboring village, gave violin tutelage and repertory to a young Jules Verret, the father of fiddler Jean-Marie Verret, who recorded an album in tribute to Jornoch and his influence on the family.
