Irish, Hornpipe. A Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The tune appears in a number of 19th century published and manuscript collections under a bewildering variety of titles, but usually set as a hornpipe. It would seem to have an English provenance, or at least appears earliest in English collections, but it can be found in Scotland, England, Ireland and North America. Philadelphia, Pa., music publisher J.W. Peppar printed a version set as a reel in 1908 (see "Pretty Kate Reel."
