HOPPLE'S HORNPIPE. AKA and see "Sweet Ellen (2)/Sweet Ellum (2)," "Billy Howard's Tune." American, Reel. USA, southwestern Pa. D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AA'B. Bayard (1981) asserts the piece is widespread in the U.S., but he was unable to trace it in British tradition. The title given comes from old Juniata County, Pennsylvania, fiddler Christ Hopple, though it was usually known as "Sweet Ellen" in Pennsylvania.
