STAK IN VERGO. AKA - "Stáca an Margiadh," "Stalk en Vauraga," "Strachan variga." Irish, Air (3/4 time). A Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The Irish air"Stáca an Margiadh" was printed by Scottish musician biography:John Bowie in his c. 1789 collection of strathspey reels, country dances and airs. His garbled title was "Stak in Vergo." The tune was also published by William Crotch[1] as "Strachan variga" in a version he sourced to John Baptist Malchair taken "from the playing of a blind piper." Around the same time piper O'Farrell published a version of the tune in London in his Pocket Companion for the Union or Irish Pipes, vol. 1 (No. 126) as "Stalk en Vauraga."
Thomas Moore used a version of the air for his song beginning "Thee, thee, only thee" (Market Stake (The)").
