MISS ANN DOUGLAS OF BRIGTON'S JIG. Scottish, Jig (6/8 time). C Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AAB. "Miss Ann Douglass Brigton's Jigg" is contained in Perthshire fiddler-composer biography:John Bowie's Collection of Strathspey Reels and Country Dances &c. (c. 1789), one of a few tunes named for members of the Douglas family of the Brigton estate, Forfarshire. Anne Douglas (1771-1845) was the second daughter of William Douglas of Brigton and his wife Elizabeth Graham, who married in 1767. Anne married John Guthrie of Guthrie, in July, 1798, and bore five daughters and two sons, John and William, both at one time officers in the army. Anne and John died the same year, within weeks of each other.
