Jean Duval remarks on the interplay between dorian and major modes in this piece, a version of which was later recorded by Bernard Morin as "Reel des colons (1)" and, still later, popularized by Montreal fiddler Jean Carignan. Duval notes the similarity with the Irish reel known as "Rolling in the Barrel (1)" and other titles.
