REEL BELOEIL. AKA - "Reel de Beloeil." French-Canadian, Reel (cut time). D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). From the repertoire of accordion player Édouard Picard (1883-1931), who recorded it in December, 1930 (released in 1931). Beloeil is a town east of Montreal, located in southwestern Quebec on the Richelieu River. Picard's original recording was 'crooked', or irregular, in the second strain (with a measure of 2/4 time), but is often played nowadays (especially for contra dancing) with the part 'straightened' by doubling the 2/4 measure.
