Source for notated version : - Ship's fiddler William Litten, about whom little is known. He sailed with the East India Fleet in the voyage of 1800-1802. His manuscript was brought to Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts, by seaman Allen Coffin, when he returned home from his own voyages in the early 19th century. How it came into his possession or whether he knew Litten is unknown.
