NEW ROAD, THE ("An Botar nuad" or "An Bóthar nua"). AKA and see "New Line (The)." Irish, Reel. D Mixolydian. Standard tuning (fiddle). AB (O'Neill): ABC (Breathnach). The 'B' part is nearly the same as "Corney is Coming." Galway fiddler Paddy Fahy has been credited with reworking this tune, says fiddler Frankie Gavin, and indeed, Paul de Grae points out the tune was recorded by the Raymond Roland Quartet as "Fahy's Reel." De Grae finds a variant of the tune in Ryan's Mammoth Collection (1883) under the title "New Line." "New Post Office (1)" is either a related variant or a similar melody, depending on one's perception. See also the cognate "Scartaglen Reel (2) (The)."
