LADY CHARLOTTE CAMPBELL'S STRATHSPEY [1]. Scottish, Strathspey. G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AB (Surenne): AAB (Balmoral, Glen, Gow, Hunter, Lowe, Riley): AABB' (Athole, Kerr). One of the 197 compositions claimed by Nathaniel Gow (1763-1831), and one that "shows Nathaniel at his best" (Emmerson, 1971). Collector John Glen (1895) agrees, listing it among those of Gow's "exceedingly good melodies." See note for "Lady Charlotte Campbell's Reel" for more on person of title.
