PARTING KISS [1], THE. Scottish, English; Air (4/4 time). G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AB. The title is from playwright and publisher Robert Dodsley's (1703-1764) popular collection Colin's Kisses (1742), where "The Parting Kiss" begins:
One kind Kiss before we part,
Drop a Tear, and bid Adieu;
Tho' we sever, my fond Heart
Till we meet shall pant for you.
Scottish poet Robert Burns adapted Dodslwy words for his poem beginning: "Ae fond kiss, and then we sever; Ae fareweel, and then for ever!"
