McCARTHY'S HORNPIPE (Crannciuil Mic Cartaig). AKA and see "Blanchard's Hornpipe (1)," "Broken Hornpipe (The)," "Chester Castle (2)," "Queen's Hornpipe (4) (The)," "Roxborough Castle," "Roxburgh Castle Hornpipe." Irish, Hornpipe (cut or whole time). A Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The hornpipe would appear to have British origins. "McCarthy's Hornpipe" was entered into the large mid-19th century music manuscript collection (vol. 3, p. 82) of uilleann piper Canon James Goodman (County Cork), set in the key of G major. Goodman also entered a version as an untitled hornpipe in his volume 1 (p. 244).
