STACK OF WHEAT, THE (An Cruach/Staicín Cruithneachta). AKA - "Ann Carawath," “The Little Stack of Wheat.” Irish, Hornpipe (cut time). G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB'. "Stack of Wheat" was a popular dance tune in the 1920’s and was recorded by a number of artists of the era, including Michael Coleman, James Morrison and Tom Ennis, the Flanagan Brothers and Dan Sullivan’s Shamrock Band. The McNulty Family recorded it in 1950 under the title "Ann Carawath." County Sligo fiddler Michael Coleman recorded it in New York in a medley following the “Little Stack of Barley (1)" and "Bantry Bay Hornpipe (1).” Some similarity to the “Off to California” family of tunes.
