COQUETTE [1]. AKA and see "Delaware Hornpipe." Scottish, Hornpipe. G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AA'B. 'Coquette' is the name of a contra or country dance for which this tune (as with Kerr's "Coquette (2)") was played. The hornpipe is nearly identical with "Delaware Hornpipe", printed in Boston around 1850 by Oliver Ditson. Francis O'Neill printed an Irish variant under the title "Boys from Scart (The)" in his Music of Ireland (1903). The Canadian "Farmer's Reel (1)" AKA "Ottawa Valley Reel (1) (The)" is cognate in the second strain with "Coquette (1)."
