REEL DE CAP-CHAT. AKA - "Cap Chat". French-Canadian, Reel (cut time). D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AA'BB'. Cap-Chat, Québec, is a village of about 3,000 residents on the north shore of the Gaspé Peninsula that takes its name from a headland that is purported to resemble a feline. The reel is from the repertoire of Montreal accordion player Tommy Duchesne (1909-1986), a professional traditional musician who performed c. 1930 to 1974. The tune was formerly very popular in Montreal sessions in the first couple of decades of the 21st century, remarks fiddler Pascal Gemme.
