LASSES OF IRVINE. AKA and see "Invernyty's Reel," "Irvine Steeple." Scottish, Reel (cut time). G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AAB. John Glen (1891) finds the earliest printing of the tune as "Lasses of Irvine" in Joshua Campbell's 1778 collection (p. 4), although Robert Bremner had earlier published in 1757 it as "Irvin Stiple" (Irvine Steeple) in his Scots Reels (p. 36). The tune was also entered into volume 4 (p. 158) of the large mid-19th century music manuscript collection of County Cork Church of Ireland cleric and uilleann piper James Goodman.
