Tune properties and standard notation
ITALIAN MONFRINA. Scottish, Country Dance Tune (6/8 time). G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AB. Kidson (Grove) writes that the Monferrina is "a kind of country dance, originating in the Piedmont. The tunes used in Italy and Malta became fashionable in England in the early years of the 19th century, and were employed for country dances. In this country the name stood as 'Monfrina, Monfreda or Manfredina'." Similar Monferrina tunes appear in the early 19th century music manuscript copybooks of John Clare (Northants) and John Moore (Tyneside, Northuberland).
