Tune properties and standard notation
JENNY OF THE GREEN. AKA and see "Janey of the Green." English, Country Dance Tune (2/4 time). E Flat Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The melody first appeared in print in John Hinton's Universal Magazine of Knowledge and Pleasure (London, 1757), followed by John Johnson's 200 Favourite Country Dances, vol. 8 (London, 1758). There was a song called "Jenny on the Green" that appeared in John Sadler's Muses Delight (London, 1754) and Clio and Euterpe, or British Harmony, vol. 1 (London, 1758), but it employs a different melody. As "Janey of the Green" it was copied into the 1770 music manuscript collection of Northumbrian musician William Vickers.
