Tune properties and standard notation

JENNY'S DREAM. Canadian, Hornpipe. Canada, Cape Breton. G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AA'BB. Dunlay and Greenberg (1996) relate that a friend of the family of fiddler Donald MacLellan, one Jenny Davis, dreamt the tune one night and 'deedled' it to Donald's father Ronald, who noted it on the violin. The family named it in her honor. The tune derives from O'Carolan's harp air "Princess Royal (1) (The)."

Source for notated version: Buddy MacMaster (Cape Breton) [Dunlay & Greenberg].

Printed sources: Dunlay & Greenberg (Traditional Celtic Violin Music from Cape Breton), 1996; p. 101.

Recorded sources: Celtic CX 5, Leo Doubley - "Steel City Strings" (appears as "The Princess Royal"). Rodeo RLP 75, John A. MacDonald - "Marches, Strathspeys, Reels & Jigs of the Cape Breton Scot" (1st tune in unlisted 3rd medley on side B).
