DEVIL IN IRELAND, THE. English, Jig. G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. Original key 'C' major, as "The Divel in Ireland" in Gibbons' manuscript. "The Devil in Ireland" was used as an alternate title for the tune "Devil or No Devil" printed by J. Hewitt in Fashionable Repertory... of Country Dances & Waltzes (New York, 1807), but it is a different melody than the one in Gibbon's ms.

Source for notated version: the 1823-26 music mss of papermaker and musician Joshua Gibbons (1778-1871, of Tealby, near Market Rasen, Lincolnshire Wolds) [Sumner].

Printed sources: Sumner (Lincolnshire Collections, vol. 1: The Joshua Gibbons Manuscript), 1997; p. 5.
