BIG SANDY RIVER. Bluegrass, Breakdown. USA, Kentucky. A Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. Composed by Kenny Baker and Bill Monroe (1963). The Big Sandy River is a tributary of the Ohio, and forms part of the boundary between the states of West Virginia and Kentucky along its entire length. The name derives from the numerous sand bars found in the river.
