Tune properties and standard notation
JENKINS' HORNPIPE. AKA and see "Good for the Tongue," "Cois Ceimeanna (Na)," "Stepping Stones (1) (The)," "[[Stoney Steps (The)," "Stony Steps (The)," "Washington Hornpipe." Scottish, Hornpipe. B Flat Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB (Athole): AABB' (Phillips}. Early recordings of the tune under this title are by Peter Wyper (1912) and Jim McHardy (1940's). See also the related "White Fish in the Rapids." The melody was printed in Glasgow publisher George Cameron's Cameron's Selection of Violin Music [1] (1859). A untitled version from the C.J. Surtees manuscript [2], Northumberland, dates to the early 19th century (while Surtees' name is on the cover, the entries are in many hands). It is there set in the key of 'C'.
