BLUE GARTERS, THE. Irish, Reel. F Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AA'B (O'Neill {1850}): AA'BB' (O'Neill {Krassen}). Lisa Ornstein points out that the melody was recorded by Québec fiddler Joseph Allard in 1930 under the title "La Tuque Bleue," and that Canadian 'down-east' style fiddler Don Messer later produced a similar variant called "The Snowshoer's Reel [1]."

Source for notated version: Chicago fiddler John McFadden, originally from County Mayo [O'Neill].

Printed versions: O'Neill (Krassen), 1976; p. 154. O'Neill (Music of Ireland: 1850 Melodies), 1979; No. 1514, p. 280.
