EIGHT MORE MILES TO LOUISVILLE. American, Song and Fiddle Tune. The title appears in a list of traditional Ozark Mountain fiddle tunes compiled by musicologist/folklorist Vance Randolph, but is of fairly recent vintage, having been written in 1947 by Grand Ole Opry star Louis Marshall ('Grandpa') Jones (1913-1998). Jones learned to play clawhammer banjo from a woman musician, Cousin Emmy. He developed the 'grandpa' persona while working for WBZ radio in Boston, after singer Bradley Kincaid endured his grumpiness in the morning and awarded him the moniker.
