Irish, Barndance (4/4 time). D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The schottische has acquired a large number of names, but no one title seems dominant. The 'Kerry Mills' title was accordion player Terry Teahan's (1905-1989) name for the tune, while 78 RPM fiddler Paddy Killoran Killoran recorded a version of the schottische as "Paddy Candy." Killoran's contemporary, County Sligo fiddler and accordion player James Morrison, printed his version of the tune in his c. 1920's accordion tutor as "Peggy Thought She'd Marry." However, researcher Conor Ward has identified all these variants as derivatives of the light classical 19th century piece "Silver Bells Schottische (1)."
The first strain of "Davy Davy Knick Knack" is vaguely similar to the first strain of "Kerry Mills Barn Dance [2]."
