LONSDALE HORNPIPE, THE. English, Triple Hornpipe (3/2 time). D Major. AEae tuning (fiddle). ABCDEFGHIJ. "Lonsdale Hornpipe" is John Offord's renaming of a piece that he found in Thomas Marsden's Original Lancashire Hornpipes, Old and New (1705), printed in London by Henry Playford. The original title appears to be something like "Old Lancashire or Lon Sclater Hornpipe," but Offord believes the spelling in Marsden's publication is suspect and that the printer may have misread "'Lord Stranger's Hornpipe," the name of another version of the piece. Note that Offord specifies scordatura tuning on the violin for the hornpipe.
